Auto Protection » Frequently Asked Questions Frequently Asked Questions
An Auto Extended Service Contract is an agreement between the owner of the vehicle and the Service Contract Company, obligating the Company to pay for repairs covered by the contract for a specific period of time. Your vehicle is a major investment. With an extended auto service contract from Auto Protection, you are protecting yourself from the unexpected cost of mechanical breakdowns. One major repair often ends up costing as much, or even more than the entire cost of the service contract. A service contract will ensure that your vehicle is always in the best mechanical condition.
The cost of repairs (both parts and labor) is on the rise! Can you afford not to have an extended service contract for your vehicle? If you would like to stop paying for auto repair bills, then you are a perfect candidate for an extended service contract from Auto Protection. In addition to the high cost of repair bills, vehicles that have protection with us, are kept in much better shape, which increases the resale value. Peace of mind is only minutes away. Request a quote today and see how much you can save on a service contract for your vehicle! Technically, there are two types of auto service contracts: The 1st type is called "exclusionary coverage" (New Auto Plan) and the second type is "name component coverage" (Used Auto Plan). The exclusionary coverage plan covers everything on your vehicle except components specifically listed in the agreement as being excluded. The list of excluded components consists mainly of routine maintenance items. On the other hand, the name component coverage plan covers only those components listed as being covered in the agreement. A name component coverage plan is intended to cover the major items on the vehicle compared to the exclusionary coverage plan that covers virtually everything. Our experienced service contract advisors will help build a plan that suits your needs! It's always better and less expensive to buy a service contract when you have fewer miles on your vehicle. The more miles you have on the vehicle, the more you should expect to pay. However, you need to consider your driving habits. Examine how many miles you drive each year and how long you plan to keep the vehicle. Your answers will help you determine the best term and mileage option. Auto Protection will quote you the lowest priced plan for each option. You don't need double coverage! If you're still covered under the manufacturers warranty, you don't need a service contract immediately. However, as cars age and mileage increases, so does the cost of an extended service contract. So the earlier you purchase an auto protection plan, the less it will cost. Also note that our coverage applies for a period of years beginning on the date the service contract was purchased. Be aware that some programs and other companies begin their coverage on the vehicles in-service date; not the date of the vehicle service agreement. Yes, you may still purchase a vehicle service contract through Auto Protection after your manufacturer's warranty has expired, however, the longer you wait, the more expensive the service contract becomes. Warranties from the manufacturer typically expire in 3-5 years or 24,000 - 60,000 miles depending on the manufacturer. It's always a good idea to purchase an extended service contract when your vehicle is still covered under the factory warranty. Extended service contracts are usually available for vehicles ranging from 1-20 years old with no more than 150,000 miles. Some of the auto protection plans that we offer require a 30 Day and 1,000 Mile waiting period while others require that your vehicle pass an inspection before coverage begins. A representative will let you know what is required prior to purchasing. However, please keep in mind that no auto service contract will cover pre-existing conditions, regardless of which company you purchase the plan from. An auto protection plan will pay for the cost (parts and labor) to repair/replace any covered components under the terms of the service contract when a mechanical breakdown occurs. In addition, almost every extended service contract purchase includes free roadside assistance during the full coverage term. If you have a break down anywhere in the United States or Canada, one phone call will provide you with assistance for fuel, flat tires, a dead battery and more. This benefit also includes a per day allowance for alternate transportation (rental car) and an allowance for a hotel and meals (trip interuption) if the breakdown is more than 100 miles from your home. Please refer to your service contract for complete terms and conditions. You can have your vehicle repaired by any licensed repair facility in your area. You may take it in for repairs to your original dealer, your favorite mechanics repair shop, or any national chain that performs vehicle repairs, as long as the repair shop is A.S.E Certified. All covered repairs are paid direct to the service center with a corporate credit card so you don't have to file a claim and wait for reimbursement. |
